Week 6 saw teams beginning to make their final statements before the playoffs. Saint Mary’s finished their regular season strong with a sweep, showing why they’re one of the teams to beat, while StFX also secured a first-round bye with their performance against UNB. Dalhousie bounced back after a rough stretch, and Mount Allison began their attempt at a late-season surge. UPEI and UNB both faced tough weekends, and with just one week left in the regular season, the playoff picture is beginning to take shape.
Saint Mary’s 13, UPEI 4
The #5 ranked Huskies (9-1) came out hot in their first game of the weekend, taking down UPEI (0-8) behind a six-goal performance from Owen Cox, vaulting him back into first place in the MUFLL scoring race, edging ahead of Michael Gallop. Dakota Morrissey and Jacob Goobie chipped in with two goals each as SMU’s offense continued to roll. Through nine games, Saint Mary’s looks every bit like a team gearing up for a deep playoff run.
Dalhousie 14, UNB 4
After three straight losses, the #9 ranked Tigers (5-4) finally snapped their skid with a win over the Reds (3-5), and they did so in emphatic fashion. Nate Santarpia led the charge with four goals, powering Dalhousie back into the win column. The Tigers looked composed and confident throughout, rediscovering the identity that made them an early-season contender.
Mount Allison 8, UPEI 3
The Mounties (2-7) took care of business at home, sweeping UPEI in the season series. Fourth-year captain Aiden Hazen netted a hat trick, passing Connor Smith for third most goals all-time in school history with 39. Rookie Dax Labonté had a breakout game of his own, assisting on seven of the team’s eight goals, an incredible playmaking effort that turned heads across the league. With confidence building and chemistry clicking, Mount Allison is quietly positioning itself as a dangerous playoff dark horse.
StFX 8, UNB 4
#4 StFX (7-1) put together one of their most complete performances of the season, taking down UNB 8-4 in Antigonish. Eight different goal scorers found the back of the net for the X-Men, showcasing their offfensive depth. Keegan Horne and the X defense locked UNB out in the second half, limiting the Red’s chances and turning defensive stops into transition opportunities. With the win, StFX not only strengthens their case as a championship contender, it also clinched a first-round bye to the semifinals.
Saint Mary’s 9, Dalhousie 6
In one of the most anticipated matchups of the season, the top-ranked Huskies reminded everyone exactly why they sit alone at the top of the MUFLL standings, sweeping the season series against Dalhousie. Ben MacDonald was unstoppable, burying five goals. Despite a strong effort from Dal’s Luke Kenny, who scored four, SMU’s relentless pace was too much for the Tigers to contain. Having wrapped up their regular season, the Huskies will now rest up and prepare for their semifinal matchup.
With the final week of the regular season ahead, every game carries weight. StFX will look to challenge Saint Mary’s for the top seed as they close out against UPEI and Mount Allison. The 3-6 seeds are seemingly set, but UNB’s Michael Gallop has his eye on the scoring title with two games remaining. Teams will be fighting for positioning and momentum heading into the postseason, setting the stage for a high-stakes Week 7 that could shape the playoff landscape.
