MUFLL WEEK 1 RECAP

The 2015 MUFLL season stated up last weekend with all six teams in action. Acadia beat SMU 25-6, STFX beat UNB 15-12, Dal beat SMU 17-6, and STFX beat MTA 20-6.

Maritime University Field Lacrosse League sees 11th season, enters second decade

The 2015 MUFLL season stated up last weekend with all six teams in action. Acadia beat SMU 25-6, STFX beat UNB 15-12, Dal beat SMU 17-6, and STFX beat MTA 20-6.
The Acadia Axemen defeated the host Saint Mary’s University Huskies 25-6.
Acadia’s Gavin Quigley led all scorers with five points, all goals, while Luke Byrne and Clark Hannam added four goals apiece.
SMU hit the road, albeit down the street and faced the 4-time defending MUFLL Cup Champions, the Dalhousie Tigers.
A close first quarter saw the host Tigers’ up 4-3 before blanking the Huskies in the second quarter to end the half up, 9-3.
After 60 minutes it was 13-4 and Dal doubled up SMU 4-2 in the final frame for the 17-6 win.
Ricky Canning led Dal with six points (3G, 3A) and Jesse Magarvey paced SMU with five points (4,1) giving him seven points thru two games.
The X-Men of STFX travelled to New Brunswick on a two-game road trip and won both games, defeating the UNB Buccaneers 15-12 and the Mount Allison Mounties 20-6.
The Bucs’, down 13-6 after three quarters to STFX, rattled off six goals in the final frame to bring the score to 14-12 before an unassisted Scott Arlidge goal sealed the X-Men win, 15-12.
Heath Read had six goals and Alex Miller chipped in six points (4,2) to lead UNB and all game scorers. Ian McShane had four goals and Arlidge added three goals for STFX in the win.
STFX and MT A played a close first half in their game, seeing the visiting X-Men up 10-5, before a second half outburst saw STFX outscore the Mounties 10-1 for the 20-6 victory.
STFX’s Jimmy Shea had eight goals while Ian McShane had 14 points in the game (7G,7A) and leads MUFLL with 18 points (11G, 7A) on the year.
Week 2 opens up Thursday Sept. 10th at 8pm when Acadia (1-0) travels to Dalhousie (0-1). UNB (0-1) hits the road for two games, playing SMU (0-2) Saturday Sept. 12 at 3pm and Acadia Sunday Sept. 13th at 10:30am.
Mount A(0-1) is on the road Saturday Sept. 12th  at 8pm versus Dal and Sunday Sept. 13th at 6:30pm versus 2-0 STFX.
